U.S. Embassy・U.S. Consulates Information (United Kingdom)

Nationals of the United Kingdom are not required for visa application when staying in the U.S. within 90 days for sightseeing or short-term business. Instead, “ESTA” (Electric System for Travel Authorization) is required. However visa application is still required for 90days of stay if the purpose of the visit is other than sightseeing or short-term business. Besides, those British nationals holding passport as British Subject、British Dependent Territories Citizen、British Overseas Citizen、British National (Overseas) Citizen、British Protected Person are not subjected to visa waiver and required to apply for visa. It is available at U.S. Embassy London or Consulates General Belfast.

U.S. Embassy London

Immigration visas to the U.S. are processed for citizens and residents of the United Kingdom at the U.S. Embassy in London. U.S. Embassy is also in charge of the U.S. related events held in United Kingdom.

U.S. Consulate General Belfast

The Consulate General Belfast provides consular services such as issuing passport for U.S. citizens in Northern Ireland. The Consulate General in Belfast does not issue immigrant or fiancé visas. The Embassy in London is responsible for issuing immigrant and fiancé visas to residents of the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland.

U.S. Consulate General Edinburgh

The U.S. Consulate General Edinburgh provides all consular services including issue of passport and citizenship for U.S. citizens residing in Scotland. The Consulate General in Edinburgh does not issue visas. The Embassy in London is responsible for issuing non-immigrant and immigrant visas to residents of the United Kingdom, including Scotland.

U.S. Virtual Presence Post in Wales is a very small diplomatic facility of the U.S. government in overseas. U.S. Virtual Presence Post Wales provides all consular services except for issuing visa.
